Oplontis Overview

Like most archaeological sites in Italy, this one is in the middle of a neighborhood. This photo is taken from ground level in the surround. You can see how much lava covered it.

Oplontis Out And Under

This is down the side of the villa, and then the steps to the underground cellars. Even the outer walls were painted with murals.

Many walls of Oplontis villa had red and blue walls, all painted. Much more busy than the walls most people have.
