We decided to try a different Greek restaurant downtown, and we were glad we did! El Greco is much better than Opa, foodwise - and decor-wise, too! The tzaziki is fresh and much thicker than Opa. Their terrace is enclosed and not on the street, so noise is reduced. The tables are huge and you don't feel cramped like at Opa. I had zeama and a kebab. Couldn't finish the kebab because it was so large, and it had spices that weren't dill. Andreas' Greek salad was pretty, as was his pita plate. He was very pleased with the taste of the chicken.

Only The Second
Somewhat surprisingly, I am only on my second skein of the main red background color. It seems like so much more! I know I'm getting closer, but the end seems so far away.

Cafe Briz
When we went to Soroca to see the only castle in Moldova, we stopped for lunch at Cafe Briz, a very nice restaurant a couple of blocks away from the castle. It had traditional food and other things. We went traditional. Andreas had his usual Greek salad and I had zeama. My zeama had more flavor to it than usual, and the broth had some body to it.
Lots of mamaligia and grilled meat for the main courses. Corrin and Sean both had French fries, too. The food was excellent and so was the service.

Blue And Green
Blue water and green foliage are all I have to show for on this session. On the other hand, it -is- progressing.

Culture Clash
On July 7th, the American Chamber of Commerce of Moldova (AmCham) had an Independence Day party. It was supposed to celebrate everything American, but what it did show was how different we really are.
From the obscure 1960's themed music and trivia questions - most of the Americans had never heard most of the tunes - to the buffet scrum when the food was served, it was all a reminder of how far from home we really are.

Freeform Temari
I've got this about halfway done; my students wanted to learn new stitches to use on temari, and I obliged. They learned detached chain, stem, spider web, fly stitch, and how to make silk ribbon irises!

Another Sarkis Lunch
I tried the Russian summer soup (it sounds like okrosh, but that's not how it's spelled) and a kebab at Sarkis last month. Andreas had Greek salad, with a new presentation style, and cheese-filled lavash. The soup tasted like milk with lots of dill and chopped veggies in it. It was chilled, too. Definitely different. The kebab was huge and tasted okay. Meat just isn't normally done well here.
