Our New Home - The Bad View

As I write this, the view looks even worse due to a major downpour.  The roofs below are several shantytowns around downtown.  You can see the construction site, too, and the serpentine - a road that winds back on itself a couple of times despite the very small grade.

No Kind Of Personality

This time I did some filling in on the back of the head and the nose.  He's got more green and some extension of his skull now.  Still no real personality, though.

Hibachi Lunch

One thing I do on every home leave is eat hibachi.  To satisfy that demand, we went to Edohana in Fort Worth for lunch.  We got an abbreviated show for just the two of us, and a huge mound of food.  Strangely enough, they didn't tempura lettuce leaves like they do in Moldova.  The food was good and hot and just what we needed.

Current Home - The Good View

This is some of the view out our windows.  We live on one of the upper floors of a high rise at the moment.  You can see the port and bay, with the Ilha across it.  Ships pull up constantly.  Lots of construction, some of it stopped for lack of funds, surrounds us.  We have to take Mattie downstairs to do her business, and there is no real green space near us.  We can walk her to the embassy, where there's a nice yard, but the sidewalks on the way are full of glass.

Bringing More Blue

Just some more blue filling in the middle.  I've made this my daily stitch now, so it should be coming along quickly from here on out.

Pointing It Out

The middles done.  Now it's time to get the outsides finished!

USS Fort Worth

Did you know that every Navy ship has a support group (non-military) attached to it?  The USS Fort Worth's group is located in Fort Worth, and my mother is a member.  The support groups send care packages and additional equipment/food/entertainment to the sailors.  Turns out the Fort Worth group is more active in this department than the groups for aircraft carriers, and the group holds a get together between sailors and members annually.  We were privileged to go with my mom to the get together in September.  It was held at Rahr Brewery, where they introduced a new beer specifically designed for the ship.  It's a pale ale that fits in with muggy hot weather, since the ship is stationed on the South China Sea.  We have three cases coming to Angola.
