Prince of Wales Museum

This is the Prince of Wales museum in Mumbai.  It has art, mainly contemporary.  Unfortunately, I never got to go in.  The grounds are pretty, even the photobombing tree.

Taj Lunch

After my first Good Friday tour, I went to the Taj Palace for lunch and at at their ground level restaurant.  I was sooooo happy to be able to have a bland meal for once in Mumbai.  Even though it was not full of spice, it was fresh and tasty.

Old Car

Strangely enough, Good Friday is a holiday in India.  That was the day I was walking on a tour and saw this old Indian car.  Pretty neat and well kept!

Mango Lassi

A lassi tastes like ice cream before it's been frozen.  I had this mango one on one of my walking tours of Mumbai.  It was fruity and cold and refreshing.  If you want to make your own, you can follow the recipe here.

Cricket Game

I learned the rules of cricket while watching these guys playing on the main maidan in Colaba.  It's like and unlike baseball.

Random Building

This building is a few blocks from the Taj Palace.  I think it's used as retail space at the moment.  The turrets are interesting and the overall architecture is definitely Victorian.

Pizza At Work

Just one custom made dish at the Mumbai Consulate for lunch.  They have so much variety and such a good kitchen!  My pizza was made to order and ready in less than 20 minutes.  I wish our cafeteria here did anything but fish and another Angolan dish every single day.  There have been two American type meals (one was lasagna and the other chicken kiev) in the nearly two years I have been here.

Pretty Tile

This tile was in the lobby of the Taj Palace hotel.  I wonder how many people walk by it without seeing it?  It's gorgeous.

It's a Dosa

A dosa is a lentil flour crepe.  It's crispy and thin and flavorless.  It's also unstuffed.  You're supposed to rip it apart and dip it in spicy stuff.  Unfortunately, I never got used to spicy stuff for breakfast.  I was hoping the dosa itself would have more taste.

Back Of The Gateway

The back of the Gateway of India is a view of the bay.  This is where boats to Elefanta Island leave from.  You can also see a lot of moored larger ships waiting for cargo or to load or unload oil.

Gateway And Taj

Some photos of the gateway and of the Taj Palace.  They were all taken from the cobblestones in front of the gateway.  Unfortunately you can't go through the gateway.

Shwarma In India

So, um, yeah.  Shwarma in a fancy hotel in Mumbai is not as good as I had hope it would be after missing shwarma for so long.  It was okay, but not spectacular.

View From Taj

This is the view from the top of Taj tower where we at lunch.  Actually, part of the view.  You can see the naval yard and how green Mumbai actually is.

Lebanese Tapas

At the top of the Taj Palace tower is a Lebanese restaurant.  It's got a great view of Mumbai.  The tapas, all Lebanese, are okay, but not spectacular.

Gate And Taj

Ended up taking some photos of the Gateway of India and, right across from it, the Taj Palace hotel, as I wanted for my lunch companion.   I also ended up swarmed by a group of Chinese women to have my photo taken with them... weird experience.

Pali Bhavan

A photo of my very first Singapore Sling!  I have to say it was okay, but I'm unimpressed.  Went to this restaurant with several people and we were served family style.  As you can see, the plates were great and mismatched.  The decor is equally eclectic.  There is no sign outside.  We had to go past a man on a ladder in the foyer to get in to the restaurant.  The rest is mix and match Victorian and bamboo.  The food was excellent - all Indian, of course, but not exceedingly spicy.  You could actually taste it.  The sauces were creamy and thick, and the rice was plentiful.
