Meal in Dresden

After out chilly tour walking around Dresden, we were hungry and cold so we decided to go eat. We found somewhere good, too, accidentally. It was just off the main square and had delicious food.

Factory and Palace

The black grime is one way you can tell this is the former cigarette factory in Dresden. Also, the clock. Have to have shift changes on time. The palace grounds below are undergoing renovation. This is the back side of the palace; we walked the long way to get there, though.

Church and Pomp

This is the other well known church in Dresden - the Catholic one. And the cigarette factory behind yet. Yes, a factory. It was built in the early 19th century and was fan-cy. Plus a guy on a horse statue because every European city has one. This one is in front of the other part of the palace.

Walking by the Elbe in Dresden

Yes, it was a pretty bleak (and chilly!) day, but the tour took us down the Elbe river. Evidently the bridge collapsed during a storm a couple of weeks previously. I don't know what the pretty building is, but it's not on the church/palace side of the river.

See the Church?

The round domes are the church. It was rebuilt completely with contributions and no public money and is a recent build - after the fall of the Berlin wall.

Doors

The main doors to the symphony hall in Dresden make quite a statement.

Trees by Symphony Hall

This is the side of Dresden's symphony hall. The inside supposedly has some of the best acoustics in the world. It's also where a film with Meryl Streep? playing a conductor was filmed. I liked the trees showing off their colors. They also obscure a Soviet era mural that's all about communism, of course.

The Inner Courtyard - Dresden Palace

The inner courtyard of Dresden palace is about half the size of the outer, but still huge. We did not get to tour the rest of the palace this visit. I do want to go back to Dresden.

Dresden Palace Courtyard

This courtyard is huge, but still not quite as big as the stable courtyard. This one's also even more fancy and undergoing renovation.

In the Stables

This courtyard and the stables are huuuge. And way too nice for horses.
