Cologne At Night

A photo from one side of the Rhein to the other. Cologne can look pretty at night, even in bad weather.

Same Statue

Same statue as the night one I posted last week. You can see how cloudy it was. Andreas took it from this angle because it reminded him of someone.

More Goulash For Me

I think I ate goulash at every opportunity while we were in Cologne. The weather lent itself to that. So here's my goulash and Andreas' sauerbraten lunches.

Cologne Lunch

It was almost constantly raining when we were in Cologne in December. While cruising the Christmas markets, we ducked into a random pub for lunch. The goulash was perfect for a cold, wet day.

Cologne Zoo

We went to the Cologne zoo while we were on our short visit. It was cold and damp, so we didn't stay long. The zoo is worth a visit.

Cologne Statue

This statue was at the side of the bridge across the Rhine by our hotel in Cologne. It looks kind of cool at night.

Lufthansa Business Class Food

Food we had on our flights from Pristina to Frankfurt and then from Frankfurt to Amsterdam last December. We were able to get business tickets because of so many United miles.

Carpaccio And Butter

Not sure why they served butter with the carpaccio; I skipped it. The rest was very good.

Hotel Restaurant - Grissini

While in Cologne, we stayed at the Hyatt Regency. I had a lot of points, so we used them for reduced rates and for access to the executive lounge. One of the very rainy days we decided to eat at one of the hotel restaurants, Grissini. The restaurant was a true disappointment. The meat and cheese tray looked nothing like its photo, and the rest of the food was bland, overcooked, and our dishes tasted the same.  Even with completely different meats, our sauces were the same. That's lame.

Fish In Cologne

We went to the Cologne zoo and aquarium when we were there in December. They had red pandas! They also had a lot of fish.

Mainz Lunch

We decided to explore Mainz on our last weekend in Germany last spring. We stopped at a stube off the main drag where there was an open air market. My schnitzel was good and Andreas always loves a wurst.

German Steak On A Stone

I cannot find the name of this restaurant, but it's outside Frankfurt. It had a wonderful steak on a stone, and we were outside enjoying the weather in late May. The place was recommended by one of Andreas' class instructors. Food was excellent and service spectacular.

Dim Sum With Dima

Chicken feet and other delicacies at the dim sum place in Frankfurt. As usual, we were the only non-Asions. Food was good, though!

Fantasy Castle

This little castle is outside Stuttgart. It's got a great view. It's also, for a castle, new. This was never a fort - it was built as a retreat in the late 1800's.

Visit To The Mothership

Last May we visited our friends who live in Sindelfingen, just outside Stuttgart. You know what else is in Sindelfingen? Zweigart! So we wet to their outlet store abutting the factory. The outlet was as big as a Hobby Lobby. I didn't know Zweigart made all these things. There was yarn (lots of yarn) and scrapbooking stuff and, of course, lots of fabric. They had both quilting and stitching fabric. They also had some kits and some premade things to stitch on. We spent a good hour perusing the aisles. The last photo is of my stash in the bag. My friend didn't even know the place was there until I told her, but she now goes there for craft supplies for school projects for the kids.
