Outside Peles

Our last photos of Peles are of the grounds right outside the castle itself.  It's not that large an area, as Peles is in the town of Sinaia.  The area is very pretty, though.

Home Theater Peles Style

Peles Castle has its own home theater.  It's a real theater with a backstage, a stage, an orchestra, and seating.  I guess this is just old style.

Overblown and Overlarge

The whole palace is oversized.  It's huge and ostentatious and needing of a downsize.

Pizza In Birlad

On our way home from Brasov in July, we stopped in Birlad for pizza.  We were hungry and the Gradina de vara Paradis looked welcoming.  We went in after turning around and finding parking.  The place was cool and shady even outside on the terrace on a sunny hot day.  The service was very good and the pizza delicious and inexpensive.  Andreas had the one strewn with olives.  Mine was the one with mushrooms.  Neither of us could finish our pizzas, as they were big!  We also had some pickles, which were very good too.  We liked this place so much that when Andreas picked  friends up from Bucharest last month, he stopped here for dinner with them.

Palatial Art And Storage

My favorite of this set is the ceramic inlaid table.  I just can't imagine being burdened with all this - stuff.

Random Monastery

We saw this monastery on our way to Brasov, remembered it, and decided to take pictures on the way home.  It was a very quick stop, though, as Andreas didn't want me adopting one of the puppies from the parking lot.  The copper roofs and unusual shape nestled in the mountain make this a very beautiful site.  It's in between Brasov and Oituz.

Like A Castle...

Everything is bigger in a castle, except the rooms.  The ceilings are high; the furniture is oversized; the dark is gloomier; the paintings are murals.  It's a fine place to feel uncomfortable in.
