Second Leaf Done

Yay! I got Part B, the second leaf, done today. They look pretty good together. Now, if only I could find more time for this. I really need to get it done before I go to France, as I don't want to have to carry it in my suitcase over there and risk something happening to it. On to Part C, the inner part of the flower.

On to the Second Gold Leaf

As my husband commented on my last posting regarding the goldwork, gold is not normally my favorite metal. I'm far more partial to silver and bronze, and will, eventually, do goldwork in both those colors. For now, I'm enjoying learning the technique and I think the gold looks good for the two things I'm working or have worked on. This week I got the lattice done on the second leaf and will hopefully complete it in the coming week. I still like how it's coming together, even though some of the lines on this second leaf aren't quite parallel.

Goldwork Leaf Done

I completed Part A of the Silk and Metal GCC this last week. I think it looks pretty good. Now to do the other leaf that swoops downward next to it the same way. I still like the way goldwork goes fairly quickly. It's also good my husband has figured out how to make a temporary stand for me. I use two of his quick release clamps and clamp it to the table. Works really well.

Silk and Metal Stitching Started

I finally started stitching this last week. It's going well so far. This picture shows the start on Part A. I finished Part A yesterday and now have one complete leaf on it. I'm really glad I did the other piece of goldwork first, though. There are some things not explained very well in the instructions and having that little bit of experience has helped me. Now to get it farther along before July when it has to be turned in.

Goldwork Happy Dance

Yesterday I thought of taking a day and just working on this to get it done. Today, I ended up with extra free time in the afternoon and DID! I'm proud of this because every single stitch in it was something new to me. For a first attempt at such an esoteric form of stitchery, it came out well. I'm not satisfied with the striped petals on the stem, but I can live with it. Happy, happy, joy it's done! This makes two finishes on my Ten Project Challenge done.

Goldwork Getting Done

As you can see, this really is almost done. The leaf that I finished this week was a pain and it's not as good as I want it to be. Hopefully, after the practice of doing it, the other one I will do in the next few days will look better. Both my husband and best friend want this piece. It'll go to my husband and I'll have to do something else for the friend - soon, in goldwork. I like the technique better than I thought I would going in. The items still needing to be done are the other leaf on the stem and outlining the flower and the large basketweave leaf. Then, voila! A completed project. Amazing.

Glittering Goldwork

I am SO close to getting this done. Since this picture was taken, I added copper purl to the middle of the flower. All that's left are the two small petals on the vine and outlining the flower and the one petal - and then I'm done! Yay! I've learned a lot doing it, which I'm hoping to translate to Kay Stanis' goldwork GCC that I bought most of the materials for last week. I have to start it this week - I'll probably be putting the pattern onto the silk tomorrow or Friday.

Goldwork Gets Going

This is making more progress this week - I got the whole petal done with the woven couching. Now I just have to plunge the rest down on that. I'll probably get to that today or tomorrow. Then laying down a lot of paillettes! It's beginning to take shape. I'm hoping to finish this off by the end of the month.

Goldwork

Just as I was on a roll with this, I ran out of Jap! So ... I ordered more from Tanja Berlin and it's already been shipped. It'll probably get here while I'm gone. This is getting pretty close to being finished. Over halfway there. I still like it, and was afraid when I started that I wouldn't.
