Hilton Dinner

Hotel food is expensive. Especially when it's an upper end hotel like the Hilton in the castle district of Budapest. Flagship for the city, and so on. So, this meal you see was very expensive. There was nothing that wasn't to the common denominator in it. It was bland. And disappointing.

First Budapest Meal

There aren't many restaurants on the castle hill in Budapest. None are a value. That included this one that we found open on a Sunday afternoon - another hard thing - and ate lunch at. The mango lemonade was great, and the cucumber salad was good. The rest was meh. It was such a relief leaving Pristina and the embassy move behind, though.

Gulash At Trombonita

We went to Tromonitsa more than once while in Budapest. It was easy to get to and had good food. I had more gulash. Andreas had broccoli soup and a weird chicken dish.

Georgian in Budapest

No Georgian food in Pristina, so when we saw the restaurant Hachapuri in Budapest during our September visit, we had to go. It was sooooo worth it.

Budapest Barbecue

It was real barbecue. The sauce could use work, and the brisket was way too fatty and cut up beforehand. Otherwise, a decent bit of barbecue for Hungary. And yes, it was really smoked.

Budapest Restaurant Trombitas

I found this restaurant while exploring non-tourist Budapest and looking for a grocery store. Found the grocery, too. The place is definitely a place for workers to go for a beer after shift and a place for warm and cheap lunch. Tired of paying tourist prices, we ate dinner here. I, of course, had goulash. It was tasty but had too many potatoes and too little meat. Andreas had soup and a toast. Both of us had chicken dishes, and we split a cucumber salad. It was a good and filling meal for not too much money.  We were both still exhausted after moving the embassy, so not having to think about dinner was good, too.

Random Restaurant

There wasn't much choice on the castle hill for food in Budapest. It was a pain. So I started to learn the bus system to remedy that. This was still on the hilltop, but the rest of the meals weren't. Most of the food was very meh.

First Dinner in Budapest

After moving the embassy, Andreas had a conference to go to in Budapest. I went along with him, as I hadn't seen much of my husband for months. We stayed at the Hilton by the palace. Nice place, but the food for dinner was pretty meh with limited choices. We ate with one of Andreas' friends and had what is laid out in front of us here at the bottom. The first photos, up through the bread, were from one of the few restaurants on the hill open for lunch on a Sunday. The food was totally overpriced, The goulash as flavorful but low on meat and high on potatoes. The cucumber salad was good. So was the bread. But a disappointing first food day.

Hungarian Wine

Bought a bit of wine in Hungary. Not much; our collection is not growing smaller.

Stationery Haul

We went kind of crazy at Flying Tiger and the store next to it. I now have multiple notebooks, colored pencils, lights, and other organizers. The roll of eyes went to a friend who loved them.

Hobby Store Stash

These are the non-basket-weaving items I picked up at the hobby shop in Budapest.

Flying Tiger Stash

Found these at Flying Tiger, a Danish stationery chain, in Budapest. Very neat store. Now to stitch. Except the yarn. Chad likes yarn.

What To Buy...

This is what happens at the duty free store when you realize you have extra of the local currency to spend because you don't know when you'll be back.

Language Folder

I now have a folder to put my Serbian homework in, thanks to Flying Tiger in Budapest.
