Parading in the Dark

More pictures of the Inaugural parade.

This murga are dressed up as Chilean miners.  They did a whole song-skit about it in their performance at Teatro Verano.

Some Grapevine

This is beginning to come together.  I am about a third of the way down.

Black Jewel for Wendy

We are almost done with the jewels on black round robin.  I have one more block  to finish after this;  this one is for Wendy.  Here's a picture of the block naked.
Silk ribbon embroidery and beads were the asked for themes.  I added a bit of beads in a different way - I put a piece of beaded corset on the lower right side.

Dancing, Foam, and Face Paint

The Dancing Queens of the Llamadas.

And the rest who competed for the honors of the queens, dancing too.

All that white on the poor marchers is foam.  Vendors walk up and down the side of the street selling it to parents who give it to their kids to squirt into the eyes of the marchers.  I find  the beahvior insupportably mean, and have no idea why parents would allow their children to behave in such a manner.

Look at this poor man all foamed!  Think of the cost of his costume, and how much it would cost to clean too - then think of all the dancing girls and their feathers and the rest.  All foamed.
Even those who are just carrying banners wear face paint!

Struggling to Get There

I've made progress, but not a whole lot.  I'm in the middle of the bottom row now.

Carnaval is Underway!

And the parade begins!  Everyone who's competing at Teatro Verano has to march, along with a bunch of advertisers and other groups.  It's a long parade!

The next few pictures are of the queens of the Carnaval, Llamadas, and Samba.  They compete for the honors.
