A Butterfly Wing

I popped this kit in my bag before leaving for vacation and got to work on it here in France. I've managed to get a butterfly wing started.  Still a lot of sky to do.

D Day Challenge Coin

We went to Le Memorial in Caen.  It's got a really good overview of the war, with an emphasis on the liberation of Normandy.  While there, Andreas picked up this challenge coin.

Liquor Indulgence

We visited the Pere Magloire ciderie in Pont L'Eveque, and paid for the higher level tour.  That didn't give us extra access to the place, but did give us tastings of higher level calvados and little gift bags.  Because we were able to taste the higher level calvados, we bought some.  It's just soooo much smoother and with a very distinctive, lovely flavor.  The boxed calvados is thirty years old.  Their pommeau was excellent, too, as was the creme de calvados.  That last tastes like apple Bailey's.  We bought some if it, and some gifts for others, too.  Evidently, we bought enough to get a couple of lower level bottles free.

Now to get everything back in the suitcases!

Three Fingers

Three leaves have emerged!  It feels good to be working on the main design and not only the border now.  The left hand vertical line ends past the halfway point of the piece.

Dinner At Les Vapeurs

Les Vapeurs is across from the Trouville quay.  Because it's got a nice view, it's expensive.  We were hungry, though, and all the restaurants in the area were expensive and about the same looking to us.  We made the mistake of going in.  The waitress was downright rude to us once she figured out we were not drinking and not ordering appetizers.  She wrote us off as impoverished instead of just not interested in those things.  She plopped stuff on the table and stalked off.  It looked like she believed it was beneath her to serve us.  This meal, by the way, still came to nearly 50 euros.  The tip didn't reflect that, for some reason, though.  It was a case of making sure you get what you fear in her case.

As for the food itself, it was acceptable but not exceptional.  Andreas had the charcuterie, which ended up being two meals for him.  I had a rumsteck with shallot sauce.  The beef tasted like it had been sauteed in a pan with fish in it.  I hate fish, so it wasn't a good thing.  The fries were limp and underdone.  So far, the most overpriced and underwhelming meal in France.

Filling In

Beginning to fill in the diamonds now.  This one, too, rotated when I uploaded it.
