Europe Day In Chisinau
May 9th is Victory Day in the former Soviet Union. May 10th is Europe Day. On the ninth, we saw groups of Socialists and Communists honoring the dead of WWII and waving red flags all over downtown. This is what we saw on the tenth. The smoke you see is from cooking sausages, not anything alarming.
It was a rainy afternoon, so the turnout was lower than usual. Everyone there seemed to have a good time, including the flag-bedecked patrol cars.

First Flying Pig
The Flying Pig is an below-grouond restaurant that is decorated like an English pub and serves German food. It's in the Riscani district of Chisinau, over by Torro Grill. I've been wanting to try it for a while, so after picking up some framing, we went last month. It was a wet and windy day, so we ordered tea. It was very good tea served with muffins. Then we ordered food ... a meat plate which Andreas loved because of the mustard, fresh baked rolls, and sauerbraten and rouladen. They were all excellent, even if the presentation wasn't particularly German. The service was also superior, including an English speaking waiter. We were so happy with them we returned a week later and will become regulars.
