If you can, get a look at the saddles on these horses. They're far different from the ones used in the States - Western or English. They pil blankets on top of the horse's back, then put the saddle on, then more blankets. The saddle's fairly lightweight and adjusts in the middle to accommodate the horse 's spine. I'd hate to ride it without the blankets, though. More horses, more gaucho outfits in this go around.

Ricky's Star
So, what do you do when you've got to keep the dog from killing the movers while they pack your stuff? Make temari! I made this brown star one for Ricky and he already has it. The variegated is a Valdani perle 8. I think it came out pretty neat.

Rodeo Horses
Pictures of the rodeo and some of the horses. We didn't have tickets to the actual event, just to the grounds. Some very beautiful critters there, though.
Oh, and the band was basically playing cowboy music in Spanish.

Semana Santa
Uruguayos celebrate holy week (the week leading up to Easter) as tourism week. What better way to promote tourism than to run a rodeo? Pictures of this year's rodeo at the Prado. Andreas believes that Uruguayos ae a lost tribe of Texans.

Behind This Door
It's on a typical mixed residential and business block in central Montevideo and looks like a hundred others. It's not, though. Next to the garage door, the other one goes to a hidden cell area where, in the 1980's, the leftists held their hostages. It was a miserable place underneath the garage - cramped and crowded - and there were always three leftist guards present, too. For several years, the location was a secret - until it was raided by the police.
