A Rose And a Lobelia

More photos from the American Rose Center.  There's a reason there are no pictures of masses of roses in bloom: there weren't any.  It was hard finding roses to take pictures of, but the ones Andreas did get turned out really well.

I Like This Ball

This was my first attempt at making this design.  The colors work really well together, and I like the way the eggshell MaxiLock thread base glows a little bit in person.  It just adds some class to it.

Monjuni's

Every time we're in Shreveport, Andreas insists we eat at least once at Monjuni's so he can get his salad.  Andreas is -not- a real salad eater.  Lettuce is not part of his food vocabulary.  This salad is, though, because it's full of smoked meats and olives and cheese and very, very light on lettuce.  His salad is the third picture in this post.

His parents had lasagne (top) and sausage spaghetti (below).  I find the sauce at Monjuni's very sweet, and while I love dipping garlic bread in it, it's not something I'd want on my pasta.  So I got the chicken sandwich (bottom picture).  It was flavorful and very, very filling.  I didn't finish it.  The bread crust was crisp, and the breading on the chicken was not soggy.  It was just huge.

Whitework?

This is my version of Theresa Wentzler's freebie "Beginner Whitework Ornament".  I started it for the crazy January challenge, barely getting the center done.  I've been working on it otherwise for my three ornament challenge for Friendly Stitchers.  My question is ... is it still whitework if it's not white?

Fallen Flowers

During our two days in Shreveport, we went out to the American Rose Center.  It's on the outskirts of Shreveport and is a place run by the American Rose Society, and their headquarters.  The gardens have fallen pretty deeply into disrepair.  The roses in my yard look better and more bountiful.  Here are some of the pictures we took there.  There will be more in the next few days.

Nothing On The Bird

This week, all the stitching was on the tree limb side.  There was a lot of definite progress, but since it all looks kind of the same, the only way to tell is that the blob got larger.

Dinner At Superior Mexican

After watching the baseball game, we spent the night in the car and took a very early flight from Boston to DFW, where we had lunch with my mom (yum! Spring Creek Barbecue!) and then dinner with Andreas' parents in Shreveport at Superior Mexican Grill.  It was the first real Mexican food we'd had in our trip.  I had enchiladas (the top picture) and they were soooo good.  Wasn't able to eat everything, though.  Andreas' parents split these tostadas, and Andreas had his usual taco salad.  All of it was excellent.
Part of being back every year is to get the food you just can't find where you live.
