Back To The Sampler
I decided to get back to work on this, since I'm a part behind again. This part is the top of the sampler, so I only have a little bit to go!
Buffaloed
At the end of June, we had dinner with Corrin at Buffalo Steak House. We had salads. The waiter was very confused when I did not want any meat in my ceasar salad. it's just not done in Moldova. Presentation was lovely, and we ate outdoors. Andreas ordered a cheese plate for us to split. It was an unusual (for Moldova) selection of cheese because they've hired a French chef. All the cheeses were French, Swiss, or Italian, and very good. Corrin had pasta - her favorite dish. It was excellent, and she had enough left over for lunch the next day. Andreas had a hamburger. He says Buffalo and Seasons are the two places in the country you can get a decent one. You can see from the picture that it was huge. My steak was better than most Moldovan, but it still wasn't up to the standard I grew accustomed to in Uruguay. There, I got spoiled on beef.

Dinner At Hotel Codru
The park from yesterday's post is directly across from the Hotel Codru. While showing its age, the hotel is still one of the more important ones in the city. Its restaurant, though, has just been renovated! We went in June with David and Jessica just before they flew back to the US and had a baby boy. Here's what we had.
This is the assorted meat plate; the meat was freshly cut and not too salty or dry. After that, the men had salad - Andreas his usual Greek.
I had "baked chicken in a jar", which turned out to be chicken stroganoff with a nice puff pastry top. Like most stroganoffs, it was pretty bland. Nice comfort food, though. The rest of them had pork. Andreas' had a mango sauce with it; Jessica's had a creamy type. I still am not a fan. David had the pork tocana, a local dish. It's slow cooked and has a tomato base, too.
With dessert, I had a cappucino. This place is evidently known for it's dessert, an it was very good. Mine was creme brulee; Jessica had the lava cake, and David had a a cheesecake slice. So did Andreas. All were up to American standard and very, very good!

Almost
The lower left corner is almost done. All of the inner part (part five) is done; all that's left is the outer curve.

Downtown Fountain
These pictures were taken in the park on 31 August 1989, across from Hotel Codru. I think the fountain's really pretty.
