More Temari

This was the other temari I started at seminar. We had to make the balls from scratch before stitching. I really like the colors on this one and will be finishing it soon. The design is called maritime stars. It's a combination of kikus

and swirl stitches. I did three panels of swirl stitches at my face to face meeting on Monday, so you can tell they go fast.

Hi Meg,

I'm enjoying seeing the Temari balls!

Are these done over styrofoam balls or do you have to build up the ball shape first? I think I remember that you posted that you were doing them with styrofoam balls as the base.

I'm also interested in her new book "Japanese Kimekomi", Japanese Fabric Balls. Did she talk about or share her new book with you in class?

We built up the shape first, and it's sooo much easier to work with that way. The total ball construction takes about twenty minutes, so it's not that big a deal.

Barbara did have some of the fabric balls with her; they look even easier than temari because they don't have much to do. All you do is cut grooves in the styrofoam and tuck fabric tightly into it.

The colors are beautiful!

I really want to take a temari class sometime.

The colors are wonderful, I agree. That is also something that I am interested in learning, so will be waiting impatiently for the next batch of GCCs with CyberStitchers.
